I was in a real car accident today, my first. It was actually scary, really truly I'm not sure if we are going to be ok scary. My sister was driving and a woman made a uturn in front of us from the right lane as we were passing her in the left lane. it was unavoidable, caitlin tried to, but there was no way to avoid it. so anyways, as it was happening i had that flash of maybe the car really will stop, it always has before, and then the cold realization of no... this is going to happen, and bam. It hurt, instant pain and the air bags make it so you cant breathe really and that scares you, and i couldnt believe i was ok. I knew instantly I was actually ok, even though the impact was on my side (front right). and i asked caitlin if she was and she said yes, and i just couldnt believe it. then the stress of it actually happening kicked in and i went into overdrive, getting caitlin out of the car, someone to call police, our stuff out of the car etc. took pictures, called parents, moved car out of the road a bit, it was just very intense and crazy... but we were ok. I'm sure it will hurt like a bitch tomorrow.

valentines day: most hated holiday and why (this wont be the title) By Laura Keeley Valentine's day, the holiday of love, romance, disappointment and hurt. That's right disappointment and hurt. Many Blake students feel that Valentines Day is the worst most hated holiday that ever happened to the calendar. The holiday is often portrayed as a celebration of love. However, many feel that the holiday exists "so people in a relationship can show off and rub it in others faces that they are special", says junior Bethany Johnson, "If they actually really cared about each other they would celebrate their feelings everyday." There are even people in relationships that feel that Valentine's Day is the worst holiday celebrated. One guy, who wishes to remain nameless in fear of his girlfriend's reaction, says, "Valentines Day is supposed to be so special, its hard trying to think up the perfect day, most the time she ends up disappointed. It's just an annoying holiday." Senior Katie Hess has her own theory about the true background of Valentines Day. Hess says, "It's not a real holiday. The card companies created it to rub it in my face that I will be on a date with Ben & Jerry." Senior Mat Lewis agrees and adds, "Valentine's Day was created by Hallmark to sell more cards and make boyfriends feel uncomfortable." Some may say these students are just bitter about their own failed love experiences, but "everyone has had a failed love experience, so you can't blame it on that" says Hess. Many simply just don't like the holiday or feel that it isn't a real holiday and deserves no recognition, to those it just represents commercialization at it's worst. The holiday in question can almost be defined as next to evil in the minds of some. Senior Claire Gogan says, "Valentine's day glorifies meaningless relationships and horned-out teenagers." There are a lot of activities that are associated with the romantic holiday and it puts more pressure on teens to conform to the cliche actions that are encouraged by the holiday. Year after year those who despise Valentines Day continue to suffer through the pink hearts, sappy couples and mindless "romantic" drivel that has driven them to hate the holiday that represents love. However there is one that says the holiday represents love perfectly, senior Sam Miller says "Valentines Day represents love because love stinks and so does Valentines Day." There are a few who try to be optimistic about the holiday, Hess says "The good thing about Valentines Day is that candy and chocolate is on sale for like half price the next day."

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users (as of today). As usual, bold what you have read, italicise what you started but didn't finish, and strike through what you couldn't stand. The numbers after each one are the number of LT users who used the tag of that book. ( Read more... )

And all these lines fall short of what I had in mind, A failed attempt to capsulize a feeling, So I just try, Fail and try and try again, Someday I swear I'm going to get it, Because I'm convinced that giving in is the worst thing there is,
So we bottled and shelved all our regrets, Let them ferment and came back to our senses, Drove back home and slept a few days, Woke up and laughed at how stupid we used to be,

so the animal rescue i work wih had this dog come through really sweet and quiet, had been abused but responded really well to people, so this family came in and it was love at first site, they had a little boy and a little girl, and they both have epilepsy well the dog they already had was really bonded with the boy, so they wanted one for the girl who is much sicker than the boy and hase many more health problems, and a playmae for the dog, well the little girl and cayenne (who they renamed sadie) got along really well, everything went well and they adopted the puppy. it was a perfect sort of story. they they found out the girl is very ill. like short life ill, and the puppy they adopted, our puppy, also was ill, needed 4000 dollars in surgery, and they didnt know what to do, because they little girl has been doing better with the dogs support and has been responding to treatments better than ever, but you now 400 in surgery for a dog, when you have so much else going on? its not easy to say ok lets do it, so our rescue, already about 1200 in debt decided to pay for it ourselves. easier said than done. now we are reling on donations, and i feel stupid asking those who read my lj to see what they can do, cause lets face none of us have a lot of money. but maybe you know someone who does, or something, or want to donate 10 dollars cause if each of you did then that would be 360 dollars or something and thats a lot of money. or maybe you will repost and someone else will donate. but we really need the help the dog had the surgery already and things are looking realy good for all involved. so if your still reading, maybe you can help, there are more worthy causes of course, but there are always more worthy causes, and we could defintely use everything and anything...
the little girl is on the left with her arm around sadie...

working all this overtime makes me want to take a full day off, i had friday completely off though and it was great, but i did the rescue on saturday which really take it out of me so its like work, albeit work i love. then i worked all day sunday, and have since, and i have rescue tomorrow that i cant skip out cause i'm in charge, then i have work sunday 1230-4 and 700-1030. and then i'm at work fresh on monday for another full week. I'm just whinning and tired thoug, i like my job, i love my rescue, i just want to sleep in for a week.
i am going to mardi gras i dont yet have a place to stay, but i know i am going either way so hopefully things will fall into place like they did last year, either way i cant fucking wait. I love it, this will be my third one, its not the crowded streets its the parades the attitude and the enviroment, i think my favorite moments from last year are being in that little sidewalk pizza bar, the bar where no one was, and the boot, cause it was hilarious.
yay mardi gras, by the way i am trying to get people together to come with us, so if you feel the pull let me know, the more, the cheaper the cost. or merrier... something like that
